Title: is the modchip working on my x300t ?
Post by: tumpulio on 15. May 2009, 07:01
Hi to all,
i've installed the modchip on my x300t and modified all files on the hard disk. The only one file that i've not replaced is the TV2ClientCE2.exe.
When the box starts i can see on panel display Starting...... and on the tv i can see Updating...... After some minutes it shows Update failed.
The same thing happens with modchip and without it. I'm confused and i don't understand if the modchip is working and where is the problem: on the modchip or on the hard disk software.
Can you help me to investigate this issue ?

Regards,
Thank You

Use the serial interface on the modchip to check whats wrong....

Thank You for reply.
I've corrected a problem with Atmega flash. Now, powering-on the box, on display appears "Starting" for few seconds. After that, the display shows the brand of service provider but on tv nothing is displayed (nothing on hdmi and scart).
Than powering-off the box and powering-on it again on display appears "Error" and the hard disk is is completely erased.

I'have not idea why this happens.

Another thing that i don't understand is how set the jumper on the modchip.

Can you help me ?

Regards,

that sounds like it is not booting # times and doing a full reset of the hd.  the bootloader checks this and re downloads all hd contents (well the boot partition) under certain circumstances.

What the modchip should do is bypass this and make it boot regardless (plus a few other things).  certainly adding the serial port or at least led's helps show the status of modchip and what it has done.

Thanks for reply, my modchip is the "low" version without led.

Now I'm modifying the modchip into the "high" version, with led e serial connection.

But, I've a question: What is the exact sequence / status for the leds?

My purpose is to make working this box without the subscription to the iptv, using is features of media center for viewing DVB channels and other stuff...

Hello everybody, today I've connected the modchip with led.
So, at start, the yellow led is up, after 2 seconds turn up the red for a second, and after this all the led are off.

So, what's happening? :)

from the README file with the chip hex & code..... :s

  Green   Yellow   Red
    0        1      0   Reset detected
    1        1      0   CPU-ID OK
    1        1      1   CPU entered Debug Mode
1        0      0   Patch OK / CPU left Debug Mode
    0        0      1   An error occurs

at no point should ALL the led's be off so you deffo have an issue, sounds as tho it isnt going into debug mode, is jtag enabled and are wires correct ?

Thank U, I've not found the readme.txt...

Yes, JTAG enabled and all wires are ok :(

what reset do you mean? the reset on the back of the box?

no the reset pin which you connect to the usb chip.
remove the usb end of it (so the chip just has a floating lead connected to it) then momentaraly touch it to ground (any part of the chassis) - this should initiate a reset and make the leds toggle and at least change which indicates the chip is programmed

hi i am also having trouble getting this to work, i get the led to detect reset then get 2 leds then it goes to just the green led i don't get the 3 leds has this worked patching or not also can you show me a picture of the back of your vero board so i can see the cut outs as i want to make this myself but not very good at reading the schematics of the board still using the bread board.

Ok, but in this way I will disconnect the reset pin from the modchip, is correct?

if this is correct, when I connect the modchip to the ground, instead of the reset pin, it doesn't make anything... the led remains all off after the initial sequence just I've wrote before...

no you have a lead from modchip (the reset pin) which normally goes to the usb and detects reset. you can 'fake' a reset by grounding the lead for a moment which should make the modchip repatch the bootloader which in turn makes the leds toggle, again, something is wrong if all the led's are off

Ok the situation is this:

Powering up the box, the modchip lights the led, first the yellow, after the red... the yellow again and stop... anything...
Simulating the reset, connecting the reset pin to the ground, the modchip restarts making the same sequence that I've just explained.

Could be a software problem on the hard disk?
Title: Re: is the modchip working on my x300t ?
Post by: Herman on 28. May 2009, 17:00
possibly, however its never going to work if the modchip isnt lighting the green led as its not detecting the cpu correctly and patching the ram to boot any software that isnt signed. the fact it does 'something' when grounding the line indicates the chip is programmed (perhaps correctly....) so my money is on wiring connections or jtag enable

now I'm looking to find the max3232 chip to create the rs232 interface, to investigate what the modchip does.

Wiring connections are ok, and also the JTAG is correcly connected to the chipset... I have no idea... pheraps a non crackable version of the bootloader?

Probably just a newer/older bootloader version.

You could try the jtag software that runs on the PC instead of the modchip, if the bootloader is a different version it should tell you if it is not a supported version.

If it is unsupported you could then dump the bootloader with the other PC tool thats on the wiki.

Today I'm ready to make a test with the serial interface. First thing I would like to see what kind of bootloader is in my box, using the UART0 on board...

Next, I've modded the modchip to connect the serial interface, but what kind of software I need to see what the modchip does via the serial interface?

In Windows you can use the Hyperterminal...thats all.
You can find it here (German XP but it is easy to find it in an english XP): Start > Alle Programme > Zubehör (in english Accessoir) > Kommunikation > Hyper Terminal

ok perfect... in fact I've used hyper terminal, but I've asked you what program to use, because in hyper terminal, I didn't receive any message.

My serial is configured at 115200 8N1 ... but I don't receive anything... :(

Hi,
I'm new on this forum.
I read that you install a modchip.
But where you find this, where buy the modchip, and what model buy?
Thanks

Ok, new update... the schematic that I've found here http://www.t-hack.com/forum/index.php?topic=47.msg1170#msg1170 for the "full" version of the modchip, has got error on the rs-232 PC SIDE connection, the TX-RX are inverted.
Problem solved, I've succesfully connected to the UART0 on the board, and I've seen that the bootloader is the 1053, so it's a good thing because the modchip works with this version.

After that, i've connected the serial interface to the modchip, but in this case I didn't receive anything.

Only two characters: one at the starting of the machine, and another when the red led lights up... and after all, the modchip, like I've said, shutdown all the leds and nothing happens.

What can I do with the serial interface connected to the modchip?
Always use hyperterminal or putty? 115200 baud rate or what else?

Thanks in advance...

Sounds like it may not be programmed correctly? Clock speed maybe? either that or you have the wrong baud rate / settings in hyper terminal?

in hyper terminal 115200 8N1 is the configuration, is it wrong?

The chip should be programmed well because I ve checked the chip many times.

What about the clock speed?

Max232 chip does need power...

@tumpulio
Not sure what program you are using to program your chip. The fuse config for ponyprog is on the forum somewhere (I think it's also in my HOWTO)

Ooooook.... new modchip prepared... this is the full version, with serial interface and external clock.
So, for this new hardware, what is the configuration for the fuses of the ATMEGA8 ?

I've the pdf with the configuration for the internal clock, but for the external?

Found something in the German side of the forum, seems to be that the ATMEGA8 works with all the fuses set to "1" with the external oscillator... someone confirms?

Another VERY importan info: the TV2ClientCE.exe must be modded? I've not found any documentation about this file but in the pdf is mentioned to be modified... so, if someone could be so gentle to tell me something about this other importan software mod, either in a private message, I would be glad for this.

Thank you very much for the support... :)

Oooook... the patch seems working well! At the start it says "patch ok" ... the box seems to starts, the clock in the front starts... but the screens remain black. After that it makes a reboot and then stops.

So, software problem?

The bootloader is ok, 1053.
The patch is ok: via hyperterminal the modchip says "patch ok" .
The JTAG is correctly connected.

Remains the TV2ClientCE.exe to be modded... I've decompiled the file but I don't know what to I have to modify.
Please help me :)
