Title: Introduction
Post by: Whiterat on 11. Aug 2008, 18:20
Hi Folks,

Just wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Whiterat, and I am interested in joining the project!

For the past ~4 years I have been a reverse engineer for a popular cracking team (yep sorry devs), in this time I developed a good working knowledge of disassembly (especially with MSIL).

To add to that, I am (was? since getting an iPhone) an active XDA-Developer, porting many roms from other devices to the HTC Wizard, this has given me a good knowledge into working with pocketpc filetypes (nbf,nbh,nb0,etc) and with the porting, a good knowledge of the XIP Chain and the files/modules within and the memorymap on which they reside.

Unfortunately my knowledge goes no further with regards to hardware hacking (jtag stuff, etc).

If I can be of any use feel free to shout me.

Thanks,

welcome ...

do you own any of the boxes covered by this site ?
knowledge on modifing the nk.bin is always welcome... for example the main application is more than 1MB and since we dont want to use the unmodified application, it just wastes precious RAM.
so optimizing the nk.bin is something that we could really need.

also there are several unused drivers, since the nk.bin is multiplatform... removing those that are not needed for the specific box would also free some memory.

Hi mce2222,

I have recently purchased a DIT9719 ready for action ;)

I need to look a bit into CE as it does differ slightly from Windows Mobile, but I imagine parts of nk.bin should be no different to the XIP chain in a standard wm device.

It should be very easy to remove the unusued drivers and dump the files as modules (or convert to modules) depending upon the memory layout of the device.

Just in a hotel at the moment (god bless the GlobeSurfer!) but will be back home on Thursday to have a proper look.

Right, Im off to the pub!
